Recently, some of us have been getting involved in the local Tea Party protests. Many Objectivists around the country have been participating in various ways nationally, including Dr John Lewis, a speaker for ARI, who gave a speech at the Charlotte North Carolina Tea Party. Watch it and forward it to all your friends. It is a must-see for every American.

Junk Science

We really enjoy Steve Milloy's website http://www.junkscience.com.  He devotes himself to debunking bad science.  This includes, but is not limited to Global Warming, Second Hand Smoke and lots of other bad or pseudo science that get used to promote political agendas.

Junk Food Science

In the same vein as the Junk Science website, you might enjoy junkfoodscience.com.  This informative site is run by Sandy Szwarc, R.N.  She has the knowledge to read through medical studies and to distill the true findings, which are often not what is reported in the general media.  She is also very good at tracking the history of how certain health factors are determined.  One example is the definition of childhood obesity--the standards were changed at some point, so the "alarming increase in childhood obesity" may be so much statistical manipulation.  Szwarc covers a wide range of health issues from diet crazes to socialized medicine.

Mad Men mention Ayn Rand...over and over!

posted Jan 15, 2009 5:48 PM by Sunny .   [ updated Jan 15, 2009 6:55 PM ]

I recently watched the first season of Mad Men, a TV drama that airs on AMC and is now available on DVD. (Second season is still airing.)

Mad Men is a drama "set in 1960s New York" and "follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell."

I find the show to be entertaining, but what is especially interesting to Objectivists is that frequent, often gratuitous, mention of Ayn Rand or her novel Atlas Shrugged.
